EVENT NOTE

The Great Ohio River Swim is a challenging event that requires appropriate skills and preparation.  The course is across the river and back and is approximately 900 meters long.  Competing in the Great Ohio River Swim requires swimmers to have experience sighting in open water, negotiating river currents and being able to compete a swim at least 1000 meters long.  At registration, all participants will be asked to verify that they are prepared to compete in the Great Ohio River Swim and have completed 1000 meters/yards without stopping within 2 weeks of event date.  With all due respect, please do not enter this event if you  cannot sign the verification.

If you would like to participate in the Great Ohio River Swim you may do so by

We encourage US Swimming, YMCA, college and high school teams to participate.  Please contact us about team discounts.

Register on Race Day, Sept. 27, at Public Landing.  Race Day registration starts at 6:30am and ends promptly at 7:45am.

OPEN WATER SWIM CLINIC

Nervous about swimming in open water?  Never done an open water swim before?  The Great Ohio RIver Swim has added an open water swim clinic

The Open Water Swim Clinic will last approximately 30 minutes and begin at 7:30am.  Topics to be covered will include open water freestyle stroke, sighting, drafting, currents, start and finish, lifeguards and strategy.  You do not have to participate in the Great Ohio River Swim to attend the Open Water Swim Clinic.  The Swim Clinic will be at Registration at Public Landing.

COURSE

Expect mild temperatures, a nice, calm river and warm water.  A perfect end of season open water swim!

The course starts at the upstream end of the Serpentine Wall, swims directly across the Ohio River to Kentucky and then angles back to finish at Public Landing.  The distance is just under 900 meters.

The Ohio will be closed to barge and power boat traffic.  The swim will be timed.  Awards will be given to the winners by class.

PACKET PICK UP & RACE DAY REGISTRATION

On site check-in will begin at  6:30a.m. at the finish line at Public Landing.  Mandatory pre-race meeting is at 7:30am.  Registration and check in will close at 7:45am.     The swim will begin at 8:15am. 

All participants must be a member of USA Triathlon or must pay a 1 day insurance fee of $12.00.  Please see www.usatriathlon.org for more details.
